“Success Today, Success Tomorrow, Success Together”

KāHUI AKO
COMMUNITY OF LEARNING

NGā ūARATANGA - OUR VALUES

We believe that the more we understand about our rangatahi (young people), the more effective we will be in setting learners up for success.

We believe that the more our rangatahi (young people) understand, know, and apply, their knowledge, in a context that they are familiar with, the greater their successes will be.

We believe that through kōrero (conversations) and the sharing of knowledge and stories, we can ‘strengthen our connections’ throughout our community of learning.

We believe each kura (school) is a special taonga that creates a wealth of knowledge that supports our rangatahi's success today, success tomorrow, and success together.

WHAKATAUKī

"Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini".

PROVERB

"My strength is not mine alone, it comes from the collective."

WAIATA

Waikato te awa

This whakataukī is used to acknowledge that a person's success is not achieved alone, but rather with the help, and support of family, friends, and community.

It embraces the ideas of whakawhanaungatanga (relationships), manaakitanga (care for a person's mana), mōhiotanga (sharing of information) and māramatanga (understanding).

This waiata acknowledges the importance of the Waikato River, emerging from the maunga (mountains) of the Central North Island, flowing through Lake Taupō and quietly winding through wetlands, and farmlands to create lakes and lagoons, as it navigates its way to Port Waikato.

Waikato Te Awa is a tūpuna (ancestor), a taonga (treasure) and the mauri (life force) of Tainui Waka. It also represents different knowledge (Mātauranga) and provides us with stories.
